Short version
Insurance agencies pay WhyInsurance.me a commission when a policy is sold through the platform. Consumers don't pay us anything. Browsing, learning, requesting quotes, and messaging agencies are free.
How the commission works
- Each agency proposes a commission rate (a percentage of the policy premium) when they list on the platform.
- Our admin team reviews the proposed rate alongside the agency's license verification before approving the agency to be discoverable.
- When a policy is bound through the platform, we record a commission event at the rate that was active at bind time. Later edits to the rate don't retroactively change earnings on past sales.
- The commission is paid by the agency to WhyInsurance.me. It does not get added to the consumer's premium.
Why we publish this
Marketplaces in regulated industries can earn money in ways consumers don't see. We think you should be able to see exactly how we earn from a transaction you're considering. If you ever feel an agency's recommendation is shaped more by their commission structure than by your needs, that's a serious concern — please tell us at hello@whyinsurance.me.
What this isn't
- We are not a referral fee arrangement masked as something else. The commission is disclosed up-front in this document and surfaces in our published articles whenever pricing is discussed.
- We don't accept payment for higher placement in the agency directory. Search ordering is by name match and your filters — never by who pays more.
- We don't pay or receive kickbacks for steering you toward specific carriers, coverages, or coverage levels.
Audit trail
Every commission event is recorded with the policy reference, the active commission rate at bind time, and the calculated amount. Agencies can see their own commission events; admins can see all of them; consumers see only the policy they bought (commission to the platform is between us and the agency, not part of your transaction).
